Good Mental Health Support | A Good Fit

Are you looking for good mental health support?

For many of us, it takes a good dose of courage to seek help.

So, when we work up the guts to talk with someone and it’s not helpful or a positive experience, it can be easy to think ‘that was useless, what’s the point?‘

Looking after our mental health and wellbeing is like lots of things in life – there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Sometimes it takes a few goes to find the kind of support that’s a good fit for you.

If you’ve asked for help before but not found it helpful, please don’t give up! We know it can be tough, but we also know the difference good support can make to you and the people you care about.

Here are some things to help you find support that’s a good fit:

  • Privacy and confidentiality – Telehealth options mean you can talk to your psychologist or counsellor over the phone or video. You can access support from the privacy of your own home, when you’re driving, or wherever you feel comfortable.
  • Regular support – Good support usually takes more than one conversation, so look for a service that provides regular support that’s flexible. Talkin with a counsellor once a week might be helpful to start with, then less often as you make progress.
  • Consistent support – It’s not ideal to tell your story over and over, so it’s important to connect with a mental health professional who you can build a longer term, trusted relationship with.
  • The right fit for you – Find someone who you’re able to communicate effectively with. If you don’t ‘click’ with the first person you talk to, ask to connect with someone else.

We know it’s not always easy accessing consistent and regular services in the outback. That’s no reason for you to miss out. Outback Futures offers support which is a good fit for people living in our outback communities.
