It's about:

  • using our abilities and reaching our potential
  • coping with the normal stresses of life
  • connecting with others
  • working productively and fruitfully
  • making a meaningful contribution to our community.

 

The Wellbeing Windmill.

The Outback Futures Wellbeing Windmill draws on the latest research and incudes 5 key areas important to our wellbeing. 

If we're strong in only one or two areas, our sense of wellbeing can feel out of balance - kind of like a stool with a couple of shorter legs.

The good news is there are things we can all do to improve our wellbeing.

Often it's the things we do in our everyday lives that can create positive change.

This Wellbeing Windmill Tool is designed to help you assess your current sense of wellbeing.

You can then identify simple, everyday things you can do to improve your wellbeing.

Give someone your full attention

Give someone your full attention when you're talking with them. Put down your phone and minimise other distractions so you can listen well and show them you're interested in what they are saying.

CONNECTION – This helps you strengthen your connections with people 

GROWTH – It's good for our wellbeing when we listen and are open to new ideas, thoughts and perspectives. 

Move your body differently

It's not only our bodies that benefit from physical activity –our brains love it too! Try a new form of activity – there's lots of free online resources, or join some friends and exercise together.

Volunteer your time or skills

It's good for our wellbeing when we have opportunities to use our strengths and talents. Think about volunteering your time or skills to your community.

Driving a different route to town or going to a lookout you haven't visited in a while can help you feel a renewed sense of connection to the land and country around you, and that's good for your wellbeing.

Join a club

Our sense of wellbeing is increased when we have positive ways to engage socially with our wider community. If you'd like to feel more connected, look for opportunities to participate and contribute to your workplace, school or local clubs.

Take a look at your finances

Having a sense of financial stability can contribute to our wellbeing. Taking time to regularly look after our finances, or seeking help if we need some advice, are good ways to help feel calm, confident and in control of our finances.
