Grief and loss resources for you and your community

When tragedy happens in a small community, the impact is often felt by many, and there is both an individual and shared sense of loss and grief.

Grief is a journey, and it can be helpful to know that there is no one way to grieve – it looks different for everyone.

Here are some resources to help if you are experiencing loss and grief, or supporting others who are grieving.

A community’s approach to grief

A one page information sheet to help community leaders support their community through tragedy and grief:

  • What do I say to people directly affected by a tragedy next time I see them in public?
  • When is the right time to reach out?
  • How long should we wait to host an event in the name of the deceased?
  • What are ways a community group can honour the deceased in the long term?
  • We want to create a financial support campaign such as gofundme. Is this a good idea and how do we appropriately create the fund?
  • When is it appropriate for the community to get back to normal or start enjoying life again?
  • Closure processes after an incident
