3 ways to get ready for the school year

For many of us, school holidays are a wonderful time for a more relaxed rhythm in our days, without having to worry about packing lunch boxes, or getting out the door on time. But kids can also thrive with certainty and security of their school routine.

Whether your kids head out the front door or into the next room to do school, here are some simple ways you can help your family adjust to the new school year smoothly:

1. Re-establish sleep times

Over the coming weeks, as the school term approaches, ease your kids back into their school bedtime and wake up times. There are lots of positives for kids who are well rested!

2. Write down a morning routine for before school

A check list of things to do and reminders of important times can help your kids start their school day feeling positive and organised.

3. Plan something fun for term-time weekends

When the school year starts, it can help to have something for the family to look forward to. This can help motivate kids as they adjust to starting school either for the first time, or as they return for another year.

School isn’t always easy, but often there are ways we can help our kids grow in confidence and capacity. Outback Future’s team of occupational therapists, speech pathologists, counsellors and psychologists can provide additional support for outback kids, to help them thrive at school and in life.
